Leonard’s Tower

There are mornings you won’t know where you are,
And your fingers can’t find your guitar.
Your direction and all your senses are wrong,
And there’s no sign of Leonard’s Tower of Song.

I escape to the other side of the sea.
All the ladies, they been laughing at me.
They point and whisper as I stumble along,
“Why’s he searching for Leonard’s Tower of Song?”

Keep on walking, past the philosopher’s tomb,
As the sky fills with detritus and doom.
In a land where I can’t be sure I belong,
I’m still seeking Leonard’s Tower of Song.

With all the lies and rumors,
Got to wonder do we even exist.
Ask the dead and dying,
And they’ll tell you truth is deep in the mist.

Ah, but Leonard heard a trumpet
And the thunder of a squadron of strings.
He had twenty-seven angels
And that voice that rides on mockingbird wings.

In a beach house near the ocean of dreams,
There’s a window with a candle that gleams.
As I’m floating, trying hard to be strong,
May it guide me to Leonard’s Tower of Song.
