Just a Nightmare
Life would be so simple
If it wasn’t for the load,
And I know I’m miles away from
Heaven’s golden road.
Sometimes I’m just a monkey
Who is fighting with a snake,
And life is just a nightmare
From which I can’t awake.
Yesterday I was crawling
Through a swamp of poison mud,
Last night I was drinking
From a bucket filled with blood.
And this morning my boat was sinking
To the bottom of a frozen lake
And life is just a nightmare
From which I can’t awake.
My brain is getting softer
And my body’s getting cold,
Maybe I’m just a story
That was better left untold.
In my hand I hold a diamond,
But is it real or is it a fake?
Life is just a nightmare
From which I can’t awake.
All those nights of so much pleasure
I no longer can recall.
Someday soon I’m gonna wake up
and have nothing left at all.
I’ve heard a rumor, but I don’t believe it,
That there’s a heart that doesn’t break.
Life is just a nightmare
from which I can’t awake.
If summer’s finally over,
Can a fall be far behind?
Can someone show me how to
Get me out of my lonesome mind?
Sometimes I’m just a monkey
Who is fighting with a snake,
And life is just a nightmare
From which I can’t awake.
